Kimberly AuBuchon Designs
is a Santa Barbara, California based, full-service interior design firm, specializing in new construction design and restoration of historic homes. Kim’s passion lies in creating rooms with a juxtaposition of new and old, modern and vintage, creating layers that tell stories and give spaces their own personalities, while reflecting that of her clients. She is committed to designing functional spaces to meet the modern needs of families while being respectful of a home’s original architecture. Whether it’s renovating a historic home or designing a new construction home with details meant to feel as if they were added over time, these spaces create unique and welcoming gathering spaces for family and friends.
The interior design process is a delicate balance of beauty and function, and one of the most important aspects of this process is learning how a client lives in their home. As a mother of three energetic boys, Kim understands how to create stunning spaces that can be lived in and admired simultaneously. She thoughtfully and creatively layers spaces, evoking a carefully curated mood, resulting in inviting homes that never take themselves too seriously. A touch of unexpected whimsy or tactile drama in every design means that no two spaces will ever be alike. To accomplish this, Kim works fluently with clients, architects, and contractors to ensure that the vision that has been created is brought to life.
Kim is a Chicagoan at heart, starting her career designing for clients in the historic Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, but now lives in Santa Barbara with her husband, three incredible boys and their dog, Roxie Noodles. She enjoys cooking, pilates & yoga, traveling, and as much outdoor adventure as her family can fit into their schedule. She has been known to send her husband on reconnaissance missions to collect vintage finds everywhere they go and he is always a good sport. Her design aesthetic continues to evolve as she fully embraces Southern California living.
“I am so passionate about homes that have a story to tell. Often, the design inspiration for a home comes from the history or the architecture of the home itself. I love to research and learn about a home’s past and add a bit of that story to the design. In new construction, histories can be created and imagined to help guide and inspire the design process. To me, nothing old is worthless, and old objects can be given new life in the most creative of ways. Repurposing old treasures in a new and interesting manner help create warmth and a sense of personality in homes both new and old. But most importantly, it makes the process so much fun!”
